While the Denver Nuggets played a fantastic Game 3 to defeat the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals, a lot of attention was redirected to the news of the Phoenix Suns waiving 12-time All-Star Chris Paul.

This presents an opportunity for the Bulls, who just so happen to need a veteran point guard in the worst way. However, the question is: does Chicago have what it takes to lure the Point God to the Bulls?

Financial constraints

There are questions abound when it comes to the Bulls’ roster this offseason. From the free agency of starting center Nikola Vucevic and guards Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White, the Bulls are already strapped for cash. Couple that with the salary Paul is due next season, and it makes it tough to envision a deal actually coming to fruition. Barring a trade, it appears that CP3 heading to the Bulls is a long shot at best.

Could fill the Bulls’ biggest need

It was no surprise that the Bulls took off on a late-season surge when Patrick Beverley took over the point guard duties. A loud and feisty court general, Beverley created an entirely different dynamic with his on-ball defense and leadership. CP3 brings many of the same things and even more.

Despite his advancing age and the mileage on his body, CP3 remains one of the best floor generals in the Association. He averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 assists per game last season and shot a solid 36.9 percent from beyond the arc. It’s also not hard to imagine him working with current Bulls coach Billy Donovan, who CP3 played for in Oklahoma City in 2019.
