In today’s NBA, you can never have enough defenders. After all, one night, you could be facing off against the Dallas Mavericks Luka Doncic, and the next, you could be tasked with slowing down the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic. That said, as the Chicago Bulls gear up for the 2023 offseason, the Bulls need to recruit some free-agent defensive specialists to help bolster their already formidable defense. To that end, here are two players they should strongly consider targeting this summer.

Dillon Brooks

The Memphis Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks may not be the most popular guy in the league, but he is an unquestioned defensive force. The 27-year-old has rapidly developed into one of the best two-way wings in the league, powering Memphis’ defense with his tenacious on-ball pressure and off-ball awareness.

Admittedly, Brooks may not be the most personable, but he’s a perfect fit for Chicago, considering their team's need for a 3-and-D guy who can take on the league’s most potent perimeter threats on a nightly basis.

Jevon Carter

What Jevon Carter lacks in size, he more than makes up for with hustle and heart. The 27-year-old point guard out of West Virginia is among the toughest on-ball defenders in the league, utilizing his 6-foot-1 frame to get into the passing lanes and disrupt opposing teams’ offensive flow.

As an added bonus, Carter is one of the league’s best three-point shooters, hitting a robust 42 percent from beyond the arc this past season for the Milwaukee Bucks. And with the Bulls in dire need of some perimeter pop, Carter looks like an ideal fit.
