Key players for the Chicago Bulls heading to the final stretch of the regular season
The Chicago Bulls kick off their drive towards a seat in the NBA Playoffs on Thursday when they face off against the toughest team in the East—and quite possibly, the entire NBA—the Boston Celtics on Thursday. Sporting a 26-29 record, the Bulls have 27 games to make up the ground needed to get to the sixth seed and automatically advance to the NBA Playoffs.
If the Bulls are to achieve such a feat, these players will need to step up and lead the charge.
Nikola Vucevic
The veteran big man is in the midst of another solid season, averaging a double-double of 17.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Aside from providing muscle inside, he has worked well with fellow big man Andre Drummond in certain situations, forming a double-big frontline that has caused fits for opposing defenses.
Vucevic will need to continue his consistent production and improve his three-point accuracy to help space the floor for his teammates.
“His 27.5 percentage from three-point range is his worst in almost a decade. If he can turn the outside shooting around, it will open the floor, allowing for more efficient scoring,” Joe Cowley wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times.
Coby White
Coby White's rise this season has been crucial for the Bulls, to the extent that he was entrusted with the final shot to tie the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in their last game prior to the All-Star break.
A legitimate candidate for the Most Improved Player award, White is averaging over 24 points per game in February and has been a reliable scoring option all season long.
But his impact goes beyond just scoring. With his quickness and playmaking ability, White has shown flashes of being a true floor general on the court. His chemistry with veteran DeMar DeRozan has also been encouraging, as they have formed a dynamic backcourt duo that can light up the scoreboard.
