With the Chicago Bulls reportedly becoming more open to trading away star wingman Zach LaVine, could the rest of the roster be made available as well? One player who has piqued the interest of many teams is defensive specialist Alex Caruso. Aside from being one of the best defenders in the league, Caruso is known for his penchant for coming up with winning plays that often don’t show up on the stat sheet.

However, according to longtime NBA insider Marc Stein, teams that are interested in Caruso must not hold their breath waiting for the latter to become available.

No signs yet of Caruso being made available in trade discussions

The Bulls’ ship is sinking fast. After losing in heartbreaking fashion to the Orlando Magic on Wednesday, 96-94, the Bulls have now lost two straight and stand at 4-8 for the season. It stands to reason that at some point, the front office must decide how long the team should be given to turn things around.

Regardless of what the Bulls decide on, it appears that Caruso is one of the untouchable ones on the roster.

Stein mentioned there are “no firm indications yet in circulation” that the “Carushow” would be involved in any trade discussions between now and the trade deadline on February 8.

The ultimate glue guy

Aside from his defensive prowess, Caruso has gained a following in and around the league for his relentless effort on both ends of the floor. As a matter of fact, he’s been the ultimate glue guy for a team that has been struggling to find its identity this season. Add to that his team-friendly contract and the Bulls are in the right to keep Caruso around even if they decide to rebuild the roster.

The seven-year veteran is averaging 7.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. On Wednesday versus the Magic, he had 16 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a block.
