Report calls the Chicago Bulls' 'Big 3' as one of the season's "biggest losers" so far

A month into the season, and it’s fairly obvious this iteration of the Chicago Bulls isn’t doing well. Losers of four straight games, including seven of its last eight, the Bulls would have been at the bottom of the Central Division had it not been for the equally woeful Detroit Pistons.

The Bulls’ “Big 3” of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic has been a major factor in their struggles so far this season. While these are incredible individual players, as a unit, they’ve been inefficient in their execution and have failed to make an impact on the court.

Break up this "Big 3"

There’s no doubt about how talented and experienced the Bulls’ “Big 3” are. However, despite their good health this season, their presence has done little to lift the Bulls on both ends of the floor. The numbers back it up: Chicago ranks 28th in points scored per game, 26th in offensive rating, 23rd in net rating, and dead last in pace. If these aren’t signs that a change needs to be made, then nothing is.

“To most outside observers, the Chicago Bulls' need to break up this "big three" of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRoza, and Nikola Vučević was painfully clear,” Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report wrote.

“When all three were on the floor, the team's point differential was under water in both 2022-23 and 2021-22. And this season, it's plummeted to a disaster-level minus-18.8 points per 100 possessions with the trio in action.”

Dreadful play

The Bulls actually made some solid offseason moves, which, on the surface, looked to be the right moves. But, unfortunately, they simply haven’t panned out as expected. Jevon Carter is playing only 14 minutes per game, while Torrey Craig has seemingly lost the three-point shooting touch he displayed on the Phoenix Suns last season. In addition, Patrick Williams has regressed, leaving the Bulls in a precarious situation.

“This experiment is unraveling in spectacular(ly bad) fashion. The three stars can't (or won't) defend anyone. And their "your turn to jack up a contested mid-range jumper, my turn to jack up a contested mid-range jumper" offense has been dreadful. Things have gotten so bad that it's easy to wonder if this start may be affecting the trade value of all three of LaVine, DeRozan and Vucevic,” Bailey added.

Billy Donovan and Arturas Karnisovas are marked as safe in the Bulls' potential changes
