This is what the Chicago Bulls must do this off-season
The Chicago Bulls enter the off-season with more questions than answers. Whether it’s about their free agents, the roster construction, or getting new personnel, the Bulls have a lot of decisions to make to get themselves back in playoff contention next season. But where should they start? Here are a few ideas.
Address the point guard position
The point guard is arguably the most important role in the NBA, and the Bulls need to find a way to upgrade at that position. First off, the Bulls must no longer hinge their season’s hopes on Lonzo Ball. When healthy, the 6-foot-6 is one of the most dynamic two-way guards in the entire league.
However, the former UCLA stud has not been healthy since January 2022, and the Bulls must start thinking about a more reliable option at the point guard spot. Young guard Ayo Dosunmu played the position for most of the season to varying degrees of success. Veteran Patrick Beverley took over after the All-Star break and helped the Bulls nab a spot in the Play-in tournament. But the soon-to-be 35-year-old is a free agent who has publicly stated he wants a raise and will consider other options in the off-season.
Could breaking the team up to snag an All-Star like Damian Lillard or Trae Young be the answer? It’s worth considering, as the Bulls have a strong core of young players like Patrick Williams, Coby White, and Alex Caruso. Acquiring a top-tier point guard could help push them over the edge and into contention for an Eastern Conference title.
Improve the shooting
The Bulls’ executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley need to focus on finding better shooters. Chicago’s offense was anemic last season, ranking at the very bottom in three-point shooting. Adding a veteran sharpshooter like Buddy Hield can give the team some much-needed spacing, thereby giving incredible isolation players like Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan more room to operate.
