Torrey Craig plans to return early, contrary to the recovery timeline set by the Bulls: "It's been feeling better day by day"
Torrey Craig intends to return much sooner than the expected 8-10 week recuperation period. Speaking to reporters before the Bulls' game against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, the veteran joked rejected the team's timeframe for his foot recovery, saying he'll aim to be back on the court as soon as possible.
“Two weeks,” Craig said about his recovery timeline. “Nah, that’s pretty fast. We’ll see. It’s feeling better day by day, so we’ll just keep doing the recovery, keep staying with the therapy to make sure I get it back as strong as possible so I don’t have a re-injury or anything like that.”
Background of TC’s injury
Craig sustained an acute sprain of his right plantar fascia last week against the Miami Heat. The recovery of the said injury requires two procedures before the forward can finally see himself back in action. First, it will require a four-week immobilization period before Torrey can start his rehab for an additional four to six weeks.
Craig pointed out that he typically heals much faster and is now continuously undergoing foot massages but maintains his commitment to his day-by-day progress with the Bulls.
"Being injured sucks, but I'm just going to take it one day at a time. Usually, my body heals pretty fast so I don't think the accurate time was . . . I think I'll be back a little bit earlier than that," Craig said. "But we'll see.”
Trust the process
Joining the Bulls last offseason via a two-year contract, Craig instantly found his role in Chicago as a reliable wingman with defensive emphasis. Before going down and joining Zach LaVine on the team's injury list, he averaged 6.1 points and 4.8 rebounds on 42% shooting across 27 games.
While he hopes to return even earlier before February, Torrey stands optimistic and dedicated to the progress of his recovery.
“It’s been feeling better day by day,” he said. “I’m just going to keep doing the recovery and keep staying with the therapy to make sure I get back as strong as possible.”
