As if the Chicago Bulls needed any more problems, they got another one on Friday with the news of a foot injury suffered by defensive whiz Alex Caruso. The first-team All-Defense member did not play the last 19 minutes of the game after his teammate, Coby White, accidentally stepped on his foot.

Erred on the side of caution

After the incident, Caruso gingerly walked over to the Bulls bench and was immediately replaced by Torrey Craig. He never saw the floor again, as Bulls coach Billy Donovan erred on the side of caution and decided to keep him out for the remainder of the contest.

“I just decided not to put him back in the game. I don’t know if he could’ve gone back in the game. It was definitely my decision. I know he was hurting enough. He said he didn’t feel great," Donovan said.

"When he said he didn’t feel great, I didn’t ask him if he could go back in."

It was for the best

Caruso has been one of the team’s few bright spots this season. He’s averaging a career-high in points (10.0) on a sizzling 56 percent shooting, including 47 percent from beyond the arc. After White stepped on the left foot, which has his sprained toe, Caruso shared after the game that it was probably best he sat out the rest of the match.

"It was pretty painful. It was probably the right decision," Caruso said.

"There was probably only more negative that could’ve happened than positive throwing me back out there with the athletes and the pace of the game and the physicality of it."
