While it is still unknown how much action on the court will Chicago Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu be seeing this upcoming season, the hometown kid is already dropping dimes at Beasley Academic Center, which is his former school. The Illinois alumnus pledged free tickets to Bulls games to students who make the honor roll.

A little push

Dosunmu attended the school, located in the Washington Park area, from third to eighth grade, so he knows a thing or two about what life is like there.

"This is where I pretty much grew up and had a lot of fun at, so it means a lot for me to be able to come back and give back to the school," Ayo remarked in an interview posted on the Chicago Bulls community page.

Ayo added that the program called Ayo's Scholars may provide students with the nudge that is needed to keep striving and stand out from the crowd.

"I want to impact the community in a positive way [and] give them a great incentive. Kids who normally get Cs or they're borderline honor roll, it may give them an extra push to help them make the honor roll, and I think that's what it's all about," Dosunmu said.

Crucial juncture

Ayo is at a critical juncture of his young career. He recently signed a three-year contract extension with the Bulls, although his place in the rotation remains unclear going into training camp. Dosunmu had a fantastic rookie season and followed it up with a solid sophomore showing, albeit with less-than-stellar percentages from beyond the arc.

After shooting 37 percent from three-point land in his first season, Dosunmu managed just 31 percent this past season, thereby limiting his effectiveness as a scorer. Dosunmu will compete for the starting point guard position alongside Coby White, Dalen Terry, Alex Caruso, and Jevon Carter.
