Bulls star DeMar DeRozan got massive support from fans after his cryptic X post
The silent fight continues for DeMar DeRozan. On Tuesday, the Chicago Bulls star published a cryptic X post that tackles depression. With the caption, “2.20.24. The conversation continues…,” the content shows a reposting of his 2018 tweet that denotes his battle with the mental disorder.
The tweet was a key quote from the lyrics of the Kevin Gates song "Tomorrow.” Deebo's post has already garnered thousands of likes and overwhelming support from the X community.
Mental health advocate in the world of sports
On behalf of NBA players, Deebo stands as one of the courageous and well-known advocates on the topics of depression and mental health awareness.
In a 2018 interview with Doug Smith of the Toronto Star, DeRozan revealed that he is fighting depression and anxiety.
“It’s one of them things that no matter how indestructible we look like we are, we’re all human at the end of the day,” DeRozan told Smith. “We all got feelings...all of that. Sometimes...it gets the best of you, where times everything in the whole world’s on top of you.”
He added: “This is real stuff. We’re all human at the end of the day. That’s why I look at every person I encounter the same way. I don’t care who you are. You can be the smallest person off the street or you could be the biggest person in the world, I’m going to treat everybody the same, with respect.”
Deebo is a brave one
Despite the success that he currently enjoys as one of the league's stars, Demar experienced a rough childhood in his hometown in Compton, California, a place that has been notoriously dangerous due to gang-related violence and disturbances, especially in the late ‘80s to early ‘90s.
Upon his shocking 2018 departure from the Raptors, DeMar admitted that he was completely heartbroken in his trade to the San Antonio Spurs as he considers Toronto as home. Then in 2021, he also endured the loss of his father, Frank DeRozan, who passed away after battling several longtime illnesses.
As we don't normally see and feel other people's sufferings, kindness costs nothing but means everything.
