The Chicago Bulls haven’t been the same since the loss of starting point guard Lonzo Ball to a serious knee injury in January 2022. They’ve tried numerous options to fill that void — from young Ayo Dosunmu to veterans Alex Caruso and Pat Beverley with varying degrees of success. This season, former Milwaukee Bucks ace reserve Jevon Carter joins the mix, hoping to solve the team’s point guard woes finally.

However, an expert has proposed a trade that would send Atlanta’s All-Star guard Trae Young to the Windy City. Could this be the move that turns the Bulls’ fortunes around?

Explore the possibility

The Bulls are built to win now. What may hold them back from making serious noise in the Eastern Conference is the lack of a proven point guard. Plucking Trae Young from the Hawks in exchange for All-Star guard Zach LaVine and a 2027 first-round draft pick could be just what the doctor ordered. Young has proven himself as one of the league’s premier playmakers, and he already has a wealth of experience playing in an up-tempo system.

"That's why Chicago should poke around for a Young trade, particularly since Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer reported that Atlanta's front office ‘has the green light from ownership to do whatever it wants to with the roster.’ The Hawks, who have struggled to field a competent defense throughout Young's tenure, could see some value in getting bigger in the backcourt while still fielding former All-Stars at both guard spots with LaVine and Dejounte Murray," Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report explained.

High-scoring backcourt

This trade would give the Bulls a dynamic backcourt that features two All-Stars who can score from anywhere on the court. Even at age 34, DeRozan remains one of the NBA’s premier offensive threats. Having Trae Young alongside him would give the Bulls a formidable one-two punch that few teams can match.

“Young might be a savvy enough playmaker to connect all of the dots on this Chicago team. Opposing teams would face a series of tough decisions trying to wrangle Young, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic on offense, and maybe head coach Billy Donovan could summon the same magic that helped this offense-leaning roster land a surprising fifth in defensive efficiency last season,” Buckley added.
