Chicago Bulls rising star Coby White spent part of his All-Star break watching a couple of female basketball players strut their skills, and he came away mightily impressed.

White attended the Iowa-Michigan game wherein Caitlin Clark broke the record for most points scored in women’s college basketball history. He also took in the three-point shootout between the Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry and the New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu during the NBA All-Star festivities.

Great competition

As White watched Curry edge out Ionescu 29-26 in the one-round contest, he couldn’t help but be amazed by the accuracy and range Ionescu showed. While he’s well aware of how lethal Curry is from beyond the arc, White was blown away by Ionescu’s shooting ability.

“(Ionescu) can shoot the (expletive) out of the ball. For her to step up in that moment against the best shooter ever and set the tone in that type of way, it was inspiring for sure,” White said.

“I thought it was dope. It was a great competition. For those two to go out there, only one round, and especially for Sabrina to go first with all the pressure on and put up 26 [points] in a performance like that, it was inspiring.”

Seeing Clark play in person was dope

White added that while he’s seen Clark’s games on TV, the experience was different in person.

“It was dope. Obviously, I’ve watched (Clark) on TV. But it’s a lot different seeing her in person,” White said of Clark’s 49-point explosion in Iowa’s 106-89 victory over Michigan.

“She’s crazy good. She’s talented and super skilled. For her to hit the logo 3 to break the record, that was a dope moment. The place was rocking. It was loud, sold out.”

When asked who Clark reminded him of in the NBA, White shared the closest comparison is Dallas Mavericks’ superstar Luka Doncic.

“Honestly, with the way she controls the game and playmakes and gets everybody involved but also has stepbacks and her shot, she reminds me a lot of Luka (Doncic). They both can control the game so well. She gets to any spot she wants to. She manipulates pick-and-roll. She knows how to use change of pace. She’s not really fast but she’s so deceptive with the ball that she can get past any defender.”
