Basketball memorabilia collectors often consider Michael Jordan’s items to be the “holy grail,” and as such, nearly impossible to attain considering the astronomic price tag associated with them. However, a car previously owned by the GOAT—a 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 Lorinser, to be exact—is set to go up for auction on the online platform WhatNot for the unbelievable price of $23.

Homage to Jordan’s jersey number

While the price itself is mindboggling for any car, much less one previously owned by His Airness, the figure is obviously an homage to the jersey number that Jordan wore all his years with the Bulls and, later on, the Wizards. Save for a brief flirtation with jersey no. 45 after his first retirement, he eventually returned to his roots and the number that made him a household name. The car is the premier item in a promotion that also has several sought-after items, including a football signed by Tom Brady and a signed Dan Marino trading card.

Car collector

Jordan’s passion for cars is well-known. Back in May, Jordan acquired the remarkable Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster for a whopping $3.5 million. This exclusive convertible holds the prestigious title of being the "fastest convertible in the world" and is now proudly a part of his impressive car collection.

His Airness also has an impressive collection of exquisite automobiles, including a variety of rare Porsches, Ferraris, and the remarkable McLaren-Mercedes SLR 722. However, arguably the true gem of his collection is the highly coveted 2010 Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir, one of only 12 ever produced.
