Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan had an aura of invincibility and inevitability around him. He was often the favorite to win every game and/or series he appeared in, no matter the circumstances. However, having just returned from a lengthy layoff due to his first retirement, the Orlando Magic found a chink in Jordan’s armor and took advantage of it, resulting in the very last Playoffs loss of His Airness career.

1995 Eastern Semis

Jordan returned late in the 1994-1995 season and immediately gave the Bulls a jolt, electrifying the city of Chicago and the NBA. His return quickly installed the Bulls as a clear-cut title contender, regardless of the fact that the team Jordan came back to was missing several members from their previous title squads. One key player—power forward Horace Grant—was already with the Orlando Magic.

Although His Airness was still incredible, averaging 31 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, it was clear that some rust was still there. The Magic were able to take advantage of it and won the series in six games. It was the very last time Jordan lost a playoff contest wearing Bulls colors.

Gave the Magic credibility and respect

Magic guard Nick Anderson holds that series victory in high regard, saying it’s a distinction nobody can ever take away from them.

“That was so big for us as a young team and a franchise and I think we are still the last team to beat the Bulls in a playoff series,’’ Anderson said. “That gave us a lot of credibility and respect, beating Michael and the Bulls like that. I know M.J. was coming out of retirement, but as they say, the game must be played, and we won it.”
