After pretty much getting left out of the highly-acclaimed documentary series “The Last Dance,” former Chicago Bulls center Luc Longley will get his time in the spotlight as the NBA has produced a four-part docuseries about the life and times of the Australian big man, which can be viewed on NBA.com and the league’s app.

Key component

The 7-foot-2 center played five seasons with the Bulls and was the starting center of the team that won its second “three-peat.” He averaged 9.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game during his last three seasons with the squad, all of which resulted in championships. While Longley didn’t get much praise—any other player on a team with Michael Jordan ever rarely did—the importance of his role in those title runs was without question.

Whether it was manning the post, defending the paint, or hitting timely jumpers from midrange, Longley was an understated component of the Bulls’ success late in the 90s.

Left out

As mentioned, Longley had a critical role in the Bulls’ late run in the 90s. However, when “The Last Dance” was released in 2020, Longley was barely seen, much less talked about in the Jordan-centric show. Bulls fans and certainly Australians noticed and pointed this out. The Australian TV network ABC eventually produced its own hour-long documentary on Longley, and the NBA soon followed suit.
