Remembering Jimmy Butler's 52-point explosion vs. Charlotte Hornets
Although Jimmy Butler is now the face of one of Chicago Bulls' rivals in the Eastern Conference — the Miami Heat — it wasn't long ago that the man known as "Jimmy Buckets" was representing the Windy City and putting on a show night in and night out. His most special performance as Bull, though, came on January 2, 2017, when he dropped 52 points to lead Chicago past the Charlotte Hornets, 118-111.
Man on fire
Butler's best year for the Bulls came during the 2016-2017 season, as he averaged 23.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists to go with 1.9 steals per game. So, it wasn't a surprise that Butler had such a historic game during that season. He scored a game-high 52 points on 15-of-24 shooting from the field and an amazing 21-of-22 free throws to lead the Bulls over the Hornets.
As astounding as his efficiency was, Butler did more than just score for the Bulls on that night as he also grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out six assists, and had three steals in an incredible all-around effort that stands out even today.
Remembering Jimmy's time in Chicago
Jimmy Butler spent six seasons in Chi-town, and although he never made it to the NBA Finals with the Bulls, his incredible rise to stardom during his time there will never be forgotten. From being the last pick in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft to becoming a multiple-time All-Star and an All-NBA player, Butler left his mark on the Bulls' franchise and showed that he was one of the game's most unique talents.
This particular performance will also be remembered as one of Butler’s best while in Chicago, and it goes down in history as an incredible moment for a player who has since made his name known all around the league.
