Booby Gibson Has Another Favorite LeBron-Era Cavs Moment That Isn’t The Famed Playoff Pistons Game
Game 6 of the 2007 NBA Eastern Conference Finals will always hold a special place in Daniel “Booby” Gibson’s heart. Not only was it the moment where the Cleveland Cavaliers got revenge on their division rival Detroit Pistons, but it sent them to The Finals for the first time in franchise history.
At the time, LeBron James was just scratching the surface only for years into his career, delivering one unforgettable playoff performance after another.
Yet on June 7, with an opportunity to close out the series, a rookie nicknamed Booby stole the show with a 31-point night to stun the basketball world and become a local legend in the process.
If you ask anybody around Cleveland about that game, they’ll smile in an instant, and the same goes for Gibson.
But when Cavs Insider asked about another favorite memory of his, Booby had one in mind.
“We were playing against Oklahoma City. Another LeBron moment,” Gibson said. “We go into the huddle and he was like, 'On this play, trail up and I'mma slow it down and I'mma hit you for a three' to put us up by [two]. He knew he would draw all the attention.
“So that's one game of many moments where we had a moment where we talked it out and then I went on the floor and I delivered. And it ended up being a shot where everybody remembered it during the game, but for me, it was a moment where he trusted me in that moment rather than him feeling like he had to take the shot.”
Gibson is grateful for the love the city of Cleveland showed him when he played and continues to receive even after his playing days.
“A lot of gooseys,” Gibson said with a smile, referring to the three-ball celebration the Cavs had as a team inspired by Jamario Moon.
