Cavaliers Cash In On Warriors Turnovers, Sweep Regular Season Series
The Cleveland Cavaliers swept their regular season series against the Golden State Warriors with a 118-110 victory tonight.
According to @CavsNotes on X, this victory marks the Cavaliers’ first regular season series win over the Warriors since the 2009-10 season.
A key factor in Cleveland’s victory was their ability to convert forced turnovers into points on the other end of the floor.
In all, the Wine and Gold recorded a season-high 32 points off turnovers as a team and only committed 11 turnovers themselves compared to Golden State’s 20.
The Cavaliers’ defense made four different Warriors players commit at least three turnovers, with Stephen Curry committing a team-high four miscues.
Conversely, Cleveland tallied a season-high 13 steals as a team.
Three different Cleveland players recorded at least two steals, with Darius Garland leading the way with five, tying his career-high.
After trailing by one point at the end of the first quarter, the Cavaliers outscored the Warriors 38-21 in the next period to take a 16-point halftime lead. In terms of points off turnovers, Cleveland outscored Golden State 15-0 in the first 24 minutes.
The Warriors made things interesting once again in the third quarter, outscoring the Cavaliers 31-16. They also committed five turnovers to Cleveland’s six, while recording two more points off turnovers than the Wine and Gold.
The Cavaliers returned to their first-half success in the final quarter, recording 11 points off of six Golden State turnovers. Cleveland committed half as many miscues in the period, and the Warriors could not score any points off of them.
Up next, the Wine and Gold will play the third game of their four-game Western Conference road trip against the Sacramento Kings on Monday night.
