Cavaliers’ Caris LeVert Records Season-High In Win Over Wizards
The Cleveland Cavaliers earned their first win following the NBA All-Star Break with a 114-105 victory over the Washington Wizards on Sunday evening.
With the win, the Wine and Gold avoided their first three-game losing streak since December 11 through 14.
A key contributor for Cleveland in its latest victory was veteran swingman Caris LeVert.
The 29-year-old nearly recorded the second triple-double of his career, tallying 18 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists off the Cavaliers’ bench. This was his first game with double-digit rebounds this season.
LeVert’s 12 rebounds were tied for a game-high with teammate Jarrett Allen. They were also LeVert’s most in a game since March 31, 2018, when he grabbed 12 as a member of the Brooklyn Nets against the Miami Heat.
On Sunday, 10 of his 12 rebounds came in the second half, when the Wine and Gold outrebounded the Wizards 27-20. The Cavaliers ultimately won the rebounding battle 47-40.
Along with his strong rebounding, LeVert broke out of a scoring slump.
In Cleveland’s previous three contests, he averaged just 5.7 points per game, while shooting 5-for-28 (17.9%) from the field and 1-for-9 (11.1%) from three-point range. But on Sunday, he shot a much more efficient 6-for-10 (60%) from the field and 1-for-3 (33.3%) from beyond the arc.
LeVert’s 18 points were his most in a game since January 11, and his eight assists were his most in a game since February 14.
Up next, the Cavaliers will host the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, February 27 at 7 p.m.
