Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell Named Eastern Conference Player Of The Month
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been playing tremendous basketball for a long stretch and they're finally getting some national recognition for it. Specifically, Donovan Mitchell is receiving praise from around the NBA world.
Mitchell was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for January and it's an accomplishment that is well deserved. Spida averaged 28.6 points, 7.6 assists, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.1 steals. He shot the ball an efficient 47% from the field and 35% from three too.
One of the main reasons that Mitchell was given this honor was how he helped the Cavaliers win 11 of their 13 games in the month all while missing two of their key starters Darius Garland and Evan Mobley. The way that Mitchell was able to step and specifically fill the void DG left at the point guard shows just how versatile of a player he is.
This is a career milestone for Mitchell. It's his second time winning the award (December 2021) and it's his first time as a Cavalier. Mitchell is only the second player in Cavaliers history to win the award and the first since LeBron James who won it back in March and April of 2018.
It's almost impossible to find another player who had a month of January as good as Mitchell's. He was the only player in the NBA to average at least 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 2.0 steals a game.
There are a lot of storylines being talked about in the NBA right now and Mitchell playing some of his best basketball deserves to be higher up on that list. The Eastern Conference All-Stars will be announced on Thursday evening and it would be stunning if Spida doesn't make it.
