Cavaliers’ Jarrett Allen Ties Franchise Record Against Magic
The Cleveland Cavaliers entered Monday night’s matchup against the Orlando Magic with a pair of noteworthy streaks on the line.
One of which was the NBA’s longest active winning streak, which was at seven games.
The Wine and Gold extended this streak with a commanding 126-99 victory. This marks their third consecutive wire-to-wire win, and fourth in their last five contests.
And the other streak, which was at the individual level, was kept alive as well.
Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen recorded his 12th consecutive double-double in the victory, tallying 14 points on 6-for-8 (75%) shooting, a game-high 11 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.
According to Stathead, Allen has tied the Cleveland franchise record for most consecutive double-doubles.
Andre Drummond initially set the record with 12 double-doubles in 12 games played from December 23, 2020 through January 15, 2021. While the Wine and Gold played 13 contests in this span, Drummond missed the team’s game on January 12, 2021 because of a right Achilles bruise.
Allen’s streak, however, nearly came to an end during the game. During the third quarter, he sat on the floor for a brief period after a collision with teammate Isaac Okoro. But Allen eventually gave his team a thumbs-up, and remained in the game.
After the contest, Allen was asked what means the most to him about his teammates wanting him to reach 12 straight double-doubles.
“It’s great,” Allen said. “I can hear them counting on the bench, my rebounds. It’s hilarious. [Tristan Thompson’s] up there cheering me on. But it’s great. It just shows how much we want each other to succeed and how much we want everyone to be great.”
