Cavs Reportedly Looking To Make Upgrades Before NBA Trade Deadline
We're approaching the halfway mark of the NBA season. That means rumor and trade season is about to get underway and the Cleveland Cavaliers could be at the center of the action.
Donovan Mitchell has been at the epicenter of a lot of rumors dating back to the Summer, but recent reports suggest the Cavs will hold onto him and look to make other upgrades instead.
Who might the Cavaliers target and what position would they go after if they were to make a trade?
Marc Stein of The Stien Line reported in his newsletter that the Cavs want to play this season out before making significant roster changes. More specifically, they're looking to add a 3-and-D wing to their rotation. Stein added that any move the Cavs make will be deemed "as a win-now move."
As for who the Cavs could be targeting, one name has already popped up in a report from Cleveland.com's Chris Fedor. That player is Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith.
Finney-Smith would certainly fit the 3-and-D category if we're trying to tie these two reports together. He's shooting 41.1% from behind the arc on 5.6 attempts a night. Finney-Smith can also play the three or four which would help with Cleveland's floor spacing.
A trade for him may not be on the "win-now" level, but he would be a good fit on this Cavs team.
We're likely to get a lot more reports and rumors leading up to the February 8 trade deadline if the Cavaliers are looking to make a substantial move for their postseason push.
