Cleveland Cavaliers To Host Second Annual Bow Tie Night
On March 3, the Cleveland Cavaliers will host their second annual Bow Tie Night, presented by The Gilly Project, when they take on the New York Knicks.
The Wine and Gold held the same event last season on March 15, 2023 against the Philadelphia 76ers to generate proceeds towards neurofibromatosis (NF).
Less than two months later, Nick Gilbert, son of Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert, passed away on May 8, 2023 due to complications from NF1, the most common type of neurofibromatosis.
Per a release from the team, NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumor growths on nerve pathways that can lead to going blind or deaf, bone abnormalities, and even cancer.
With no known cure for NF1, a disorder that takes place in one in every 2,500 births, Cleveland plans to honor Nick Gilbert’s 26-year life with all proceeds going towards further NF research.
The Gilly Project, the organization inspired by Nick Gilbert, is focused on helping the next generation of kids with NF by raising money for NF Forward, Dan and Lisa Gilbert’s non-profit whose goal is to eliminate NF.
The following will take place as part of the March 3 game:
- A halftime show to unveil a banner honoring Nick Gilbert.
- A concession stand rebranding to “Gilly’s” & serving Nick’s favorite food; Mac & Cheese.
- Fans will receive a Bow Tie Night rally towel.
- Fans are encouraged to wear bow ties to the game.
- “What’s Not to Like?” shooting shirts will be sold at center court.
- A 50/50 raffle will be held, with proceeds being matched by the Gilbert Family Foundation.
With all of this in mind, the Cavaliers and city of Cleveland have surely put together a special event honoring the life and legacy of a special individual like Nick Gilbert, while helping to eradicate NF.
