Craig Porter Jr. Staying Ready Amid Injuries To Cavaliers Roster

Cleveland Cavaliers: Craig Porter Jr. isn't letting inconsistent playing time affect his confidence.

Craig Porter Jr.'s rookie season has been a roller coaster. He started the season on a two-way deal and played himself into a four-year contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Still, his playing time and opportunities in the rotation have been inconsistent.

This isn't something that Porter is letting affect his play. He is ready to give it his all and contribute to the team whenever his name is called.

"It's just how it's been so far," said Porter after Clevend's matchup with the Atlanta Hakws. "Even after I got my first chance, I never knew when it was going to come. It's kind of been challenging, but I've just always been trying to stay ready and working on my craft. All the coaches know they want to see me out there and do good. Just them having that confidence in me means the world."

Thursday night was one of those situations where he was asked to step up and that's exactly what Craig did. Despite the loss, Porter Jr. scored 13 points, shot 75% (6-8) from the floor, grabbed four rebounds, and recorded two assists.

It's nice knowing that the Cavs have someone such as Porter ready to give it their all and play at a high level when they need him too. However, another conversation can be had for the rookie to be a part of the team's full-time rotation.

It seems likely that Craig will continue to get more and more opportunities through the next handful of games. Donovan Mitchell, Max Strus, and Evan Mobley will remain out for Friday night's matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves paving the way for more minutes for Porter.
