Things just keep getting worse for the Cleveland Cavaliers. They've been doing their best to stay afloat since the All-Star Break, just lost to the rival New York Knicks, and now will be without their star player for one of their toughest stretches of games.

The Cavs made this announcement on Monday afternoon about Donovan Mitchell's current injury stats:

Donovan Mitchell received a Platelet-Rich Plasama (PRP) injection [Monday] at the Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine Center to treat a left knee bone bruise that sidelined him for the Cavaliers previous two games. Mitchell will be listed as OUT for the next three games (March 5 vs. Boston, March 6 at Atlanta, and March 8 vs. Minnesota). His status will be re-evaluated over the weekend and updated as appropriate.

This is just a brutal loss for the Cavs. Mitchell has been the most consistent piece their offense has had and now they'll be without him for matchups against the Eastern and Western Conference's top teams.

The news also comes as those are questioning Cleveland's ceiling without Mitchell off the floor as the Cavs lost yet again to the Knicks.

What is even more disappointing is that Mitchell is putting together arguably the best season of his career. He's averaging 28 points per game and career-highs in rebounds (4.5), assists (6.2), and steals (1.8).

Let's hope that this injury only keeps Mitchell sidelined for the three games that are included in the press release. If it's any longer, the Cavs risk sliding way down in the playoff picture.
