Evan Mobley Exits Cavaliers-Celtics With Ankle Injury
The injuries continue to stack up. The Cleveland Cavaliers were already shorthanded heading into the matchup with the Boston Celtics and lost a key player halfway through the second quarter.
Evan Mobley caught a pass in the paint and immediately jumped to finish the play with a dunk. Everything looked fine on take-off, but Mobley visibly rolled his ankle as he landed on the floor.
He limped up the floor and checked out at the next dead ball. Mobley gingerly walked back to the locker room with the Cavaliers' head trainer putting almost zero weight on his leg. The team officially announced shortly after that he would not return to the game which they're currently calling a "left ankle sprain."
Mobley only had four points, six rebounds, and four assists, in 22 minutes of action.
Mobley can't escape this injury-filled season. He missed 19 games earlier in the year after undergoing left knee surgery on December 18. He's only a couple of weeks into being off a minutes restriction and now Mobley will have this ankle injury to deal with.
He also joins a long list of Cavaliers who are dealing with injuries. Donovan Mitchell and Max Strus were ruled out well before tip-off. Caris LeVert and Isaac Okoro were a game-time decision but did end up playing.
Cleveland's starting power forward has averaged 15.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in the 37 games he's appeared in this season.
