Former Cavaliers Fan Favorite Has A Message For Donovan Mitchell
One of the biggest storylines for the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason has not been the free agents they've brought in or how they will look to bounce back next season after a first-round exit. Most people are talking about Donovan Mitchell's future in Cleveland and how long he'll be here.
It started with a picture of Mitchell playing golf with a New York Knicks executive, then he very publicly showed a lot of love to Madison Square Garden, and even Brain Windohorst said he can't see Mitchell signing an extension with the Cavs.
It's easy to see why this has been such a big story that has caught many people's attention. This includes former Cavalier Richard Jefferson who became a fan favorite during his time in Cleveland and was a part of the legendary Cavs team that win the 2016 Finals.
Jefferson said this on the Road Trippin Podcast:
“I think Donovan Mitchell has to raise his game. He's gotta make sure, I say this respectfully, that he doesn't turn into Dame Lillard. Donovan's gotta make people around him better.”
What Richard means by this is that Mitchell has to "make those around him better" and turn into a "game manager" rather than a primary shooter. Damian Lillard has been of the league's best point guards and players for the last five-six years, but he hasn't been able to win in Portland.
Jefferson does admit that if Spida can accomplish this then he could see the team making a Conference finals which could boost Cleveland's hopes of retaining the All-Star Gaurd.
