Jarrett Allen Records 11th Straight Double-Double, Cavs Defeat Hawks
On Saturday night, Cleveland Cavaliers began their four-game road trip with a wire-to-wire 116-95 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
With this result, two formidable Cleveland streaks remain intact.
On a team note, the Wine and Gold extended the NBA’s longest active winning streak, which is now seven games. Individually, Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen continued to build his case to be named an NBA All-Star with his 11th consecutive double-double.
In his latest performance, Allen recorded 14 points on 6-for-8 (75%) shooting, while leading all players with 11 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.
According to Stathead, he is now tied for the second-longest double-double streak in franchise history. Elmore Smith also recorded 11 straight double-doubles for Cleveland from January 31 through February 18, 1978.
Only Andre Drummond has had a longer double-double streak for the Wine and Gold, recording 12 straight from December 23, 2020 through January 15, 2021.
However, these occurred in 12 consecutive games in which Drummond played, not 12 consecutive Cavaliers games. This was because 11 games into his double-double streak, he missed Cleveland’s game on January 12, 2021 due to a right Achilles bruise.
Allen has been one of the premier big men in the NBA during his 11-game double-double streak. In this span, he is averaging 18.5 points, a league-leading 14.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game. Additionally, his 65.0% field-goal percentage (minimum 10.0 field-goal attempts per game) ranks fourth in the league.
The 2022 All-Star has a chance to tie Drummond’s streak in the Wine and Gold’s next contest, which is against the Orlando Magic on Monday night at 7 p.m.
