REPORT: Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell To Participate In Three-Point Contest
This season, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell has been one of the NBA’s most prominent three-point shooters.
He currently ranks top-15 in the league in three-pointers made (3.2, 12th) and attempted (9.2, third) per game.
Now, he will reportedly be attempting plenty more triples during NBA All-Star Weekend, and not just during his fifth consecutive NBA All-Star Game.
According to ESPN Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Mitchell plans on participating in the 2024 NBA Three-Point Contest.
He will be joining a so-far reported field of Damian Lillard (2023 Champion), Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Haliburton, Lauri Markkanen, and Malik Beasley.
This comes after Mitchell declined an invitation to take part in last year’s contest, and has campaigned for Cavaliers teammate Sam Merrill to be in the contest this year. Mitchell previously participated in 2021 as a member of the Utah Jazz, when he was eliminated in the first round.
The 27-year-old is shooting 122-for-348 (35.1%) from beyond the arc, and has made at least four triples in 19 games so far this season.
If Mitchell were to win this year’s three-point contest, he would become the first player in NBA history to win both an NBA Slam Dunk Contest and Three-Point Contest. He won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest while playing for the Jazz back in 2018.
Mitchell also seeks to become the third player in Cleveland franchise history to win an NBA Three-Point Contest. Mark Price won the event in both 1993 and 1994, and Kyrie Irving took home the title in 2013.
Cavaliers fans can watch Mitchell compete in the 2024 NBA Three-Point Contest on Saturday, February 17 during the NBA’s All-Star Saturday Night, which begins at 8 p.m.
