The Cavaliers Just Did This For The First Time in Nearly 10 Years
This past Saturday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Golden State Warriors by a score of 118-110, completing a series sweep of this season’s regular season series.
With this victory, the Cavaliers accomplished something for the first time in nearly 10 years.
According to @CavsNotes on X, the Wine and Gold earned their first road regular season victory against Golden State since March 14th, 2014.
In Cleveland’s March 2014 triumph, Spencer Hawes led the way with a team-high 22 points and game-high 13 rebounds. A 21-year-old Kyrie Irving chipped in with 16 points, four assists, and a game-high four steals. Tristan Thompson, a day after his 23rd birthday, added four points, five rebounds, and two blocks.
Rookie Dion Waiters tallied 18 points and four assists off the Cavaliers bench, while Luol Deng added 16 points and six rebounds in Cleveland’s starting lineup.
Much has changed since March of 2014, as the Cavaliers and Warriors eventually met in four straight NBA Finals. Golden State ended a 40-year title drought just over a year later, and Cleveland won its first title in franchise history the following year.
But one thing that did not change from the Cavaliers’ March 2014 victory was a big Cleveland second quarter on the road against the Warriors.
In the March 2014 game, the Cavaliers outscored Golden State 36-21. Last night, a nearly identical score occurred in the second period, with Cleveland outscoring the Warriors 38-21.
Saturday night’s victory moved the Wine and Gold to 4-5 on the season and gave them their first win during their current four-game Western Conference road trip.
The Cavaliers look to move to .500 with another victory tomorrow night against the Sacramento Kings.
