Watch: Jason Kelce Honored By Cavaliers During Timeout Against Celtics
The Cavaliers had impeccable timing with their special edition Jason and Travis Kelce bobblehead night.
A little over 24 hours prior to the Cavaliers tipping off with the Celtics on Tuesday night, Jason Kelce β longtime center for the Philadelphia Eagles β announced his retirement from football after 13 years. That set the stage for a pretty memorable night at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse as both Kelce brothers returned to their hometown to be part of the occasion.
During the first stoppage of action, the Cavaliers unveiled a special tribute video for Jason, reflecting on his humble beginnings, growing up in Cleveland Heights, to eventually becoming the starting center for the Eagles. It made for a nice moment for the 36-year-old, who received a standing ovation from the Cleveland faithful.
During an emotional, 45-minute retirement speech on Monday, Jason made several references to his Cleveland roots. He thanked many of his Cleveland Heights coaches and educators and shared several touching stories of growing up together with Travis.
In due time the Super Bowl LII champion will be able to call Canton, Ohio home as well, when he's due up for enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Jason finished as a six-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler.
Travis isn't too far behind himself, after winning his third Super Bowl last month. He also just so happens to be dating the biggest pop star on the planet, Taylor Swift.Β
Despite the fact that neither of them ever played for the city's beloved Browns, Tuesday night was evidence that the Kelce's are still adored by Cleveland fans. Northeast Ohio certainly takes care of its own.
