Should Cavs Fans Be Worried About This Darius Garland Stat?
Darius Garland has made a name for himself as one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA over the last two seasons.
He shot 41.0% from behind the arc last season, and 38.3% in 2021-22.
However, the beginning of this season hasn't been as kind to the Cleveland Cavaliers' starting point guard.
Garland is shooting just 8.3% (1-for-12) from behind the arc so far this season.
This is certainly an alarming number for a player of his caliber.
The 23-year-old is attempting 4.0 threes per game, and has only had one go down so far.
Yes, Darius Garland has only made one three-pointer this year.
That make came in Cleveland's season-opener against the Brooklyn Nets. He went 0-for-2 from three-point range in the Cavaliers' loss to the Indiana Pacers, and most recently 0-for-5 from deep against the Golden State Warriors.
In Garland's defense, he's been one of many Cavaliers dealing with an early-season injury.
He missed four games due to a hamstring injury that had dated back to the preseason. So, Garland's three-point percentage is only over three games played.
Given that the lower body is an important part of a jump shot, this previous injury could be one of the reasons why his three-point shooting has gotten off to a slow start this season.
This isn't something fans should be overly concerned with just yet.
It's early in the season, Garland's been working through an injury, and Cleveland is still looking for consistency on the floor as a team. Also, Garland is still getting to the rim and averaging a fair share of 17.7 points per game.
However, his three-point percentage is a stat worth keeping an eye on.
