Three Cavaliers Who Could See Time At Point Guard Following Injury News
The Cleveland Cavaliers got horrible news on Friday when they discovered two stars would miss significant time with separate injuries. Darius Garland will be out for up to four weeks with a fractured jaw leaving the team without their starting point guard.
J.B. Bickerstaff is going to need his team to step up and these are three players who could see more time at the point guard position.
Donovan Mitchell
Donovan Mitchell is known as a tremendous scorer and offensive threat when he has the ball in his hands. He's averaging 27.3 PPG this season and is Cleveland's number-one option to score.
However, he does more than just get the ball in the hoop. Mitchell is also an underrated distributor when he has the ball in his hands. He showed this on Saturday night when he started in the point guard spot for the injured Garland and dished out a career-high 13 assists.
This is a look fans will like to see more of over the next month.
Caris LeVert
Caris LeVert feels the most comfortable when he's running the shooting guard position. Occasionally he'll also play a little bit of small forward depending on who else is on the floor.
That's not to say that we won't see LeVert running the offense from time to time while Garand remains out. He was open to the idea of playing more of the point earlier this season and that may now come to fruition.
Craig Porter Jr.
Everyone's favorite rookie guard is going to see a lot more action over the next few weeks. Fans were already pleading for Craig Porter Jr. to get consistent rotation minutes even before the DG injury news.
The Cavs were already thin at the point guard position before losing Garalnd. Now Porter Jr. will likely see a steady role for Cleveland purely based on team needs. But this will also be a tremendous opportunity for the rookie guard.
