Cavs Fan Favorite Daniel “Booby” Gibson Happy With Charity Golf Event, Plans To Give Back More To Cleveland
If there’s one thing that the city of Cleveland and its Cavalier fans know, it’s that Daniel “Booby” Gibson has a beautiful jumper.
As for his golf swing? That might need some work.
“My shot is terrible. Definitely not as good as my basketball shot. Let's say that,” Gibson told Cavs Insider with a laugh at Cleveland Clinic Courts.
This past Monday at Red Tail Golf Club in Avon, the Cavs fan favorite hosted his first annual Daniel “Booby” Gibson and Friends Celebrity Golf Outing in partnership with Dark Horse Sports (a sports agency on the rise spearheaded by Kyle Hubbard and Cameron Wright, former student athletes and Cleveland natives).
All Cleveland Coffee teamed up with the agency. For every bag of coffee that was sold, four meals were donated to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Fifteen percent of the proceeds from the outing itself went to GCFB.
Another percentage from the outing went toward Booby's D-Gib Foundation "to support the inner city youth of Houston and give them a chance at athletic and academic scholarships from low-income areas."
Participants played 18 holes in groupings, joined Gibson and his buddies for a barbecue lunch, won some prizes and had a chance to interact with everybody out on the patio when things wrapped up.
“Shout out to Red Tail for letting me host it there. It turned out great," Gibson said. "As a player, I got so much love from the community and from the city. And so now, since I’ve been back, I try to do these types of events to inspire networking and camaraderie so that the people in the city can see me give back and have moments and creating more memories.
"This city is a very special place for me, and so there will be a lot more events like that to come.”
In fact, he told Cavs Insider that he already has another idea in the works. Around Christmas time and the winter holidays, Gibson is planning on a Stop The Violence basketball game to spread awareness and help bring the city together.
As for the charity golf event, yes, Booby wants to run it back next year.
Maybe by then, he’ll have improved on the links!
“I suck at golf, I'm not gonna lie to you. I've played golf maybe two times,” Gibson admitted. “But it's just the best place for guys to talk, have fun. I really went out there to have a couple drinks, have some fun. I don't even have a handicap.”
