Celtics Assign Jordan Walsh to G League Affiliate
Jordan Walsh's latest stay with the parent club was a productive one. The rookie registered his first career points -- courtesy of a two-handed flush in the Celtics' 131-91 victory vs. the Memphis Grizzlies in Marcus Smart's return to TD Garden.
He also got invaluable practice reps, including honing his craft while going one-on-one against Jaylen Brown.
After that Sunday win over the Grizzlies, Boston's bench boss, Joe Mazzulla, stated, "I think what stood out is just his growth as a player and understanding the most important thing is defense, and I loved his defensive positioning and his defensive physicality and his instincts."
The former Arkansas Razorback also shared that Smart is a player whose footsteps he aims to follow.
"It definitely inspires you because the Celtics fans know that basketball is more than just getting 30 a night," expressed Walsh on the heels of his first career points. "It's about the hustle plays (and) it's about diving on the floor. Even his clips that were on the Jumbotron, most of them were him diving on the floor and blocking shots. I feel like, for that to be the highlight of what he was while he was here and the fans know that and love that about him, I feel like that speaks a lot to the tradition and the culture of the Celtics."
The Celtics are now sending the six-foot-seven wing back to their G League affiliate in Maine. While there, Walsh has done a commendable job of focusing on the role that he'll have in Boston, sprinting to the corners and often operating off of the ball rather than wasting time trying to be a high-volume isolation scorer.
And, of course, his versatility at the other end of the floor, his ability to pressure ball handlers, and his disruptive help defense have been on full display when Walsh is starring at the Expo Center.
