Celtics Rule Out Two Star Players Ahead of Pistons Matchup
The Boston Celtics will be without two of their top players of Wednesday's match against the Detroit Pistons: forward Jayson Tatum and guard Jrue Holiday.
The Celtics announced the news two hours prior to tip-off.
Tatum and Holiday are out due to knee injuries.
With Tatum and Holiday out for Wednesday's contest, the Celtics will look for significant production from Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, and Jaylen Brown. Tatum will miss his first game of the season.
The 26-year-old has been fantastic all season long. Tatum is averaging MVP-like numbers: 28.4 points per game, 8.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.3 steals while shooting 45 percent from the field and 37 percent from three.
Tatum's last outing on Monday against the Miami Heat wasn't his best. He tallied 18 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and one steal while shooting 33 percent from the field and 25 percent from three in 36 minutes of action.
Holiday will miss his second consecutive contest due to left knee tendinopathy, although there is no expectation of an extended absence. The 34-year-old's next opportunity to take the court comes Friday versus Milwaukee.
Holiday is in his second season in Boston. He isn't having the best start to the season. He is averaging 11.7 points per game, 4.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 0.8 steals while shooting 44 percent from the field and 33 percent from three in 31.1 minutes of action.
Holiday has played in 19 games this season.
