Celtics Sign Forward Oshae Brissett
The Celtics entered free agency being $7.3 million under the second apron, per Spotrac. While their president of basketball operations, Brad Stevens, said at Thursday's introductory press conference for Kristaps Porzingis that the team has the "green light" to add to its payroll, crossing that threshold seems unlikely and ill-advised.
Boston signed Porzingis to a two-year, $60 million extension Friday, but that money, and the $17 million the former All-Star left on the table, impact future spending and cap space.
As they work to build their roster for the 2023-24 campaign, they've reportedly added Oshae Brissett on a two-year deal with a player option for 2024-25, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The four-year veteran spent the last three seasons with the Pacers. In 2022-23, he averaged 6.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 16.7 minutes of playing time. Fewer minutes and touches translated to shooting 31 percent from beyond the arc on 2.4 attempts.
The 25-year-old forward generated 9.1 points per contest while converting 35 percent of his 3.5 shots from three-point range and logging 23.3 minutes per contest in 2021-22.
And in 2020-21, Brissett produced 10.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, a block, and nearly a steal per game in 24.7 minutes per game. He buried 42.3 percent of his 3.7 long-range attempts.
According to Mark Jones, a play-by-play broadcaster for ESPN and the Sacramento Kings, Boston also has an interest in signing Terence Davis, a free-agent shooting guard who played for the Kings last season.
