Free-Agent-to-be Grant Williams Undergoes Surgery on Injured Hand
In a season where his minutes fluctuated and he didn't play in six of the Celtics' playoff games and logged four minutes or less in three others when Grant Williams' number got called, he often made the most of his opportunities.
He shot 45 percent from beyond the arc on 2.7 attempts in 17.7 minutes per playoff matchup and displayed his defensive versatility, cycling through assignments that included Joel Embiid and Jimmy Butler.
While the latter ripped off nine points after the former Tennesse Volunteer provoked him in the fourth quarter of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, propelling the Heat to victory, Williams defended him well. But the Miami forward wasn't missing, reinforcing why he's earned the nickname Playoff Jimmy.
The 2019 first-round pick averaged 8.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in the regular season, career highs. Williams also knocked down 39.5 percent of the 3.7 threes he hoisted.
As he prepares for restricted free agency, the Charlotte, North Carolina native underwent surgery on Friday on his left hand.
Per the Celtics, he had a successful procedure to repair a tear of the radial collateral ligament of the third metacarpo-phalangeal joint on his non-shooting hand.
The expectation is he'll make a full return to basketball activities in six-to-eight weeks.
