The Boston Celtics took a 114-102 win against the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. On the same night as Joel Embiid’s MVP coronation, Jaylen Brown recorded 23 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

Brown expressed that Boston’s game plan should incorporate more ball possession for the Celtics wing, rather than station him on the perimeter.

“As the playoffs go on, I’m putting the ball in my hand and trusting I’ll make the right play against the matchups that I have,” as captured by CLNS Media. “It was PJ Tucker or Harden, put them in space, I can get by them and make the right play at the rim. I think that creates open opportunities for our guys, and it creates open opportunities for our team. If I’m tucked, stashed in the corner, I’m not doing anybody a service.”

Throughout this season, rumors have circulated that the Georgia native desires to be a first-option player. Based on the Celtics’ ball movement, it’s evident that Jayson Tatum is trusted to lead the team.

Tatum has been averaging 74.3 touches per game throughout the playoffs, while Brown totals 55.4 per game. Tatum is also leading the Celtics in time of possession per game.

If Brown is delegated to a corner-man role for the long term, he could test free agency in 2024. In the meantime, Game 4 of the Celtics-76ers series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
