Jaylen Brown Embraces Leadership Role in Celtics' Victory Over San Antonio Spurs
The Boston Celtics dominated the San Antonio Spurs in a 137-93 victory. With Jayson Tatum ruled out of the game due to a hip contusion, Jaylen Brown was designated as Boston’s primary scoring option.
Brown exceeded expectations, registering 41 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists. This was his third 40-point game of the season.
Rumors have circulated that Brown has desires to lead his own team, rather than stay teamed-up with MVP candidate Tatum. The Georgia native is set to become a free agent during the summer of 2024.
Brown commented on being Boston’s lone All-Star for Sunday night.
"It’s great, and it’s fun. It’s a challenge," Brown told NBC Sports Boston. "I get up every day and do my job, whether they ask me to score, defend, rebound. Since I’ve been here in Boston, I’ve always taken pride in doing what I’ve been asked to do. Whatever the challenge has been, I’ve always met that challenge with excitement and a willingness to be a part of the team.”
The 26-year-old was honored to take over as the team’s leader.
"When you get the opportunity to be 'the guy' that everybody’s kind of leaning on, it’s a privilege, it’s an honor.” said Brown. “So I don’t take those moments for granted. I come out each and every night and I strap my shoes up and I get my guys ready to go."
Boston’s next match-up is Tuesday night against the Washington Wizards. No updates have been provided on Tatum’s injury.
