On Wednesday, the Boston Celtics confirmed that star big man Kristaps Porzingis is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He will participate in a four-to-six-week rehab program, and the expectation is that he will be medically cleared by the start of training camp.

This news comes just a day after Porzingis took to Twitter to announce that he won't be playing for the Latvian Men's National Basketball Team in the FIBA World Cup.

Porzingis, 28, has played for three teams — the New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, and Washington Wizards — across his seven seasons in the NBA. He is fresh off arguably the best season of his pro career, as he averaged 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game across 65 appearances with the Wizards during the 2022-23 regular season (all starts).

The Celtics acquired Porzingis via a three-team trade with the Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies back in June. Boston also received the 25th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft — which it later traded to the Detroit Pistons on draft night for the 31st overall pick and two second-round picks — along with a 2024 protected first-round pick in the deal.
