Marcus Smart Nominated for 2022-2023 Bob Lanier Community Assist Award

Marcus Smart is being recognized for his work off of the court.

Marcus Smart is a finalist for the 2022-2023 Bob Lanier Community Assist Award. For this honor, the NBA selects players that made a positive impact on their community throughout the season.

NBA Cares released a statement that details Smart’s nomination.

“Marcus Smart, of the Boston Celtics, is dedicated to supporting pediatric cancer patients undergoing treatment and creating access to opportunity for inner-city student-athletes. Since joining the Boston Celtics, Marcus visits the Boston Children’s Hospital regularly to spend one-on-one time with kids undergoing cancer treatments. As part of this effort, he also works to donate mobile charging stations loaded with tablets and video game consoles called ‘Smart Carts’, designed to serve as entertainment hubs, as well as portals for communication and diversion during patients’ treatment and recovery. Over the past year and a half, Smart and his Young GameChanger Foundation, have made ‘Smart Carts’ available in seven different children’s hospitals throughout New England… Marcus previously won the October NBA Cares Community Assist Award”.

The other nominees for the Bob Lanier Community Assist Award include James Harden, Julius Randle, Brook Lopez, Alex Caruso, Dwight Powell, Keita Bates-Diop, Pat Connaughton, Tyrese Maxey, and Cameron Payne.

The winner is determined by the public and an executive panel. Voting is open until Sunday, May 21st at 11:59 pm EST. Click here for more information.
