The LA Clippers are in Phoenix on Tuesday night to face the Suns, but they will again be without Kawhi Leonard. Leonard will be missing his fifth-straight game with right knee inflammation.

The Clippers have gone 3-1 in their last four games without Leonard, and will look to pick up another victory on Tuesday night. This is the front end of a back-to-back for the Clippers, so it always seemed unlikely that Leonard would play in both games if he were to make a return in this mini series against Phoenix. While that is not say that Leonard will return on Wednesday when the Clippers play the Suns at home, it never seemed like much of a possibility that he would play in this game on Tuesday.

Based upon Ty Lue’s messaging and the sense around the team, it doesn’t seem that Leonard is dealing with anything that jeopardizes his availability for the postseason. The Clippers want to ensure that their star forward is fully healthy for the playoffs, as his lack of availability in the postseason has been a major issue for this team in recent years.

Almost certain to finish in the fourth seed, the Clippers do not need to do anything spectacular down the stretch of the season to clinch that spot. This allows them to be even more careful with Leonard, as his absence from the lineup has not put the Clippers in any real danger of losing home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
