LA Clippers Make Roster Move Before Playoffs
It was reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that the LA Clippers are signing center Kai Jones before the playoffs begin. The team announced that they had waived guard Josh Primo, which creates the roster spot for Jones. Because Jones was not on a standard NBA contract after the March 1st deadline, he is playoff eligible.
Primo, who the Clippers waived to make space for Jones, contributed very little in his time with the organization. Appearing in just two NBA games this season despite being on the standard roster, Primo suffered an ankle injury recently that Wojnarowski reported is a stress fracture.
The Clippers now have three centers on their standard roster, as Jones joins Mason Plumlee and Daniel Theis as the team's third big. It will be interesting to see how Ty Lue manages the backup center minutes in the playoffs, because neither Theis nor Plumlee have ran away with that role. This of course does not mean Jones will be called upon for playoff minutes, as he is likely behind Theis, Plumlee, and P.J. Tucker on Lue's list of trusted options, but he is eligible and available should an opportunity present itself.
For the Clippers, this feels like a move for the future more than a move to bolster their playoff roster, but Jones will join the team in their pursuit of a championship.
