NBA Admits Big Missed Calls in LA Clippers vs. Orlando Magic
Correction: Subtitle should say "Last Two Minute Report"
The LA Clippers defeated the Orlando Magic on Friday night in a game that came down to the wire. The NBA has released their Last Two Minute Report for this game, and it includes several missed calls down the stretch.
The first missed call the NBA details in their Last Two Minute Report came with 1:45 remaining when Paul George attempted a dunk on Moritz Wagner. The play was ruled an offensive foul, but the league has since determined it should have been a shooting foul. In their explanation for this play, the NBA wrote, "M. Wagner (ORL) is positioned inside of the restricted area when body contact occurs with George (LAC) and the play should be deemed a shooting foul."
The next missed call came with 1:18 remaining when possession was wrongfully awarded to the Clippers on an out of bounds play. In their explanation for this play, the NBA wrote, "After Banchero (ORL) deflects the ball, Leonard's (LAC) fingertips make last contact with the ball prior to it bouncing out of bounds. Possession should have been awarded to Orlando."
The final incorrect call is an interesting one, because there were multiple misses on the same play. With 20 seconds remaining, Paul George lost the ball out of bounds, and possession was awarded to Orlando. The NBA has since stated that George last touched the ball, but Ingles also fouled him on the play. In their explanation for this play, the NBA wrote, "Ingles (ORL) reaches in for the ball and makes contact with George's (LAC) right wrist, causing him to lose control of the ball out of bounds. Although the illegal contact causes the ball to go out of bounds, possession should have been awarded to Orlando."
