During a recent appearance on Gil's Arena, former NBA star Nate Robinson said Russell Westbrook could have been an NFL safety. In fact, Robinson said Westbrook could have been one of the best to ever play that position.

One of the most athletic players in NBA history, Westbrook regularly gets placed into these hypothetical conversations about which basketball stars could have thrived in other sports. While there have been some professional two-sport athletes, it's very uncommon, and especially in the modern era when athletes are encouraged to choose one by college.

Even nearing age 35, Westbrook is arguably the most athletic player on the LA Clippers. His athleticism and durability has remained elite even as he has aged, which is very impressive. Nate Robinson was one of the most athletic players in the NBA during his time in the league as well, winning three Dunk Contest titles at 5'9" tall.

While it was only for a short time, Westbrook and Robinson were teammates during the 2010-11 season when Robinson was sent over from the Boston Celtics as part of the Kendrick Perkins trade. Robinson only appeared in four games for the Thunder that season before being waived in December of 2011.

It's hard to argue with Robinson's take on Westbrook, especially for those who watched him in his prime with the Thunder.
