While the NBA world waits to see what happens with James Harden, the LA Clippers made a different trade, sending cash to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for the draft rights to Balsa Koprivica. The team officially announced the deal on Friday evening.

Koprivica is a 7'1" center who played for Florida State in 2020 and 2021, averaging 6.8 PPG and 3.9 RPG in 14.6 minutes per contest. Koprivica played 51 games at Florida State, and was the Charlotte Hornets' second round selection in 2021 before being dealt to the Detroit Pistons where he played for their Summer League team last season.

It's unclear exactly why the Clippers made this move, but it can't hurt to get a look at a 7'1" center who is still just 23 years old. There is also the possibility that the Clippers acquired Koprivica in order to have an additional trade piece in other moves. While Koprivica likely would not be highly sought after in any trades, he could simply serve as necessary compensation in a multi-team trade where the Clippers need to send out something. These are of course just some of the reasons why the Clippers would make such a deal.

It was not the James Harden trade that everyone has been waiting on, but the Clippers did make a move during the first day of NBA Free Agency.
