LA Clippers Re-Sign Key Player

Mason Plumlee is coming back to the Clippers

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the LA Clippers have re-signed backup center Mason Plumlee to a one-year, $5 million deal. Woj noted that Plumlee decided to stay with the Clippers despite having bigger financial offers elsewhere. Sources also told AllClippers that Plumlee was looking for a few more million than this, so it's a great steal for the Clippers.

While one may think that having a backup center isn't a big issue, it's a massive one for the LA Clippers. The team entered last season without a backup center and lost numerous games throughout the year because their small ball lineup was so terrible, and they needed a serviceable backup big in moments of Zubac being unable to play. Starting the season with a serviceable backup big like Plumlee is a move that will both alleviate Zubac, and not force the Clippers to play small ball lineups. LA's small ball lineups work great when Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are healthy, but without them, the lineups completely fall apart.

As it stands, the LA Clippers are in complete run-it-back mode. However, it still seems pretty clear that the team is trying to trade Marcus Morris, and also trying to figure out a way to land James Harden. The last domino left to fall for the Clippers is likely the trade between James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers.
