Major Russell Westbrook Injury News Announced
Russell Westbrook is one of the most durable players in NBA history, but even he isn't immune to a freak accident once in a while. On Friday night, Westbrook suffered a fractured left hand against the Washington Wizards with no update on the severity of it.
Three days later, Adrian Wojnarowski reported the first update on Russell Westbrook's fractured hand.
Westbrook underwent surgery on his fractured left-hand today, and the Clippers hope that he'll return before the start of the playoffs.
In the 2014-15 NBA season, Russell Westbrook had a similar injury where he fractured his right hand at the beginning of the season, ironically against the Clippers. He had surgery on November 1, then returned on November 28, only missing 14 games. Granted, Westbrook is at a much older age now than when he was during the 2014-15 season which was nearly a decade ago.
While Westbrook is injured, the Clippers will be using Bones Hyland as their backup point guard. So far, the team is 2-0 with Bones at backup, and have a major test against the Milwaukee Bucks tonight. It's important to note that Bones was the starting guard for the Clippers to begin the season, where he averaged 16 points a game in the month of October. He has the capability to perform for the team, but he hasn't played meaningful minutes since then.
