NBA Insider Gives New James Harden Trade Update
It has been well documented that the LA Clippers are interested in Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden, and that LA would be his preferred trade destination. While this remains the case, the Clippers and 76ers seem far from an agreement.
While Philadelphia would like a high-level player in return for Harden, LA senses the lack of a bidding war that exists, and is currently refusing to meet Philadelphia’s demands. With the Clippers remaining unwilling to part with what the 76ers are asking for, ESPN insider and analyst Ramona Shelburne recently reported that other teams do have interest right now in Harden.
Shelburne’s report wasn’t framed as some breaking development, but when discussing where Philadelphia is at right now on a Harden trade, she said they aren’t in a rush, and that “They have interest from the Clippers and a couple other teams.”
While this isn’t a major report, it is a new report, because most of the previous reports have indicated the Clippers are the only team with real interest in Harden, which is why they have remained reluctant to meet Philadelphia’s high asking price. It’s important to note that while teams outside of the Clippers may very well have actual interest in Harden, it’s also possible that the 76ers - especially Daryl Morey, would like to create this perception.
With all the factors at play in a potential Harden trade, it seems likely that one won’t be completed any time soon. Whether the 76ers would risk bringing an unhappy Harden into training camp is unclear, but that feels like the next big deadline in this entire saga. As of right now, everything else remains pretty close to that same it’s been, outside of this update from ESPN.
